David's story

What was life like before HCH?

It was really a lot of hardship. I wasn't stable at all so I was really searching for a place where I could start again in life, which wasn't easy to find.

Can you tell us your experience of being at HCH?

I have been here for almost a year and I can confirm that a lot of things have improved. Being here has helped me to get some kind of stability and a place where i can start seeking positively which wasn't the case before, because I was like in the wilderness so I must really be grateful. It's a good step forward.

How have you found the flat?

To be honest, to end up in a big place, very spacious for one person, it does well for getting it. It's not easy to go around in a place like London, to end up in a place like this. you've got enough space to think positively and you're on your own which is quite good for the kind of person I am. It's good to help you move forward.

How have you found the support?

The support is quite great. Especially when it's a small team of people but they're doing their best. Because elsewhere, you have a big organisation with a lot of staff where sometimes they don't have enough time to spend with people in their care. If you've got the time to speak and help can be provided.

How has your life changed since coming to HCH?

A lot of changes. From nowhere to start rebuilding my life and moving forward. Things are not in the present perfect but I can feel the difference compared to where I was coming here.

What are your future hopes?

To be a new man after leaving HCH. To be used as a reference to others who are going down the same path. It can be used like a reference to say 'ok, look i know a place where people can help with your life and hope community homes can help you like a mother. Life is not good for everybody sometimes. You might think 'Oh i am the only one going through hardship' but there are ports, and if you are in any boat there are ports. Not all the ports are the same so you have to choose the right port.
